One Day Programme -

Sex and Relationships Education to Support the Needs of Young Men

Aims

The programme aims to increase and develop participant's knowledge and understanding of gender, sex and relationship issues and responsibilities amongst men and women. This includes the exploration of attitudes and values held by young men within youth culture

It also aims to raise awareness of the main forms of contraception available to young men and to identify sexually transmitted infections.

Learning Objectives


On completion of the programme participants will:

  • Explore prevalence and trends of sexually transmitted infections in the UK
  • Recognise the importance of the need to focus on sexual health issues with young men especially in terms of attitudes and values
  • Discuss young men’s views of masculinity and the constraints of gender
  • Understand the transmission of sexually transmitted infections and how this relates to sexual practice
  • Research forms of contraception and the barriers that may hinder effective use
  • Identify how to discuss sex with young men and highlighting appropriate support services

This programme is aimed at anyone involved in informal or formal SRE education of young men - youth workers, support workers, LAC workers, Teachers, Connexions, YOT workers etc
