Aim

This programme aims to increase and develop knowledge and understanding of the use of Anabolic Steroids, the associated risks and the physical and legal implications.

It also aims to explore media representation of men and the possible implications this may have on body image, psychological wellbeing and anabolic steroid use.

Learning objectives

On completion of this programme the participants will be able to:

• Explore prevalence and trends of anabolic steroid use

• Explore reasons for the rise in the use of steroids

• Identify different types of steroids available and slang terms associated with steroid use

• Understand administration routes and biological processes

• Understand short and long-term risks including the potential impact on health and lifestyle

• Explore harm minimisation techniques

• Understand legislation pertaining to Anabolic Steroids under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and The Medicines Act

This course is aimed at anyone who uses steroids or works with steroid users. It uses a variety of participative learning methods in a safe, non-threatening, relaxed environment.

All participants completing this course will receive a certificate of attendance and a comprehensive portfolio of information for future reference in a binder.
