This education programme aims to increase and develop course participants’ knowledge and understanding of the issues surrounding volatile substance abuse (vsa) and will explore government legislation. It also aims to explore guidance responses to solvent use and introduce emergency first aid techniques.
On completion of the training programme the participants will be able to:
This course supports the attainment of the following DANOS Units: AA1 Recognise indications of substance misuse and refer individuals to specialists AA3 Enable individuals to find out about and use services and facilities AA4 Promote people’s equality, diversity and rights AB2 Support individuals who are substance users AB5 Assess and act upon immediate risk of danger to substance users AC1 Develop your own knowledge and practice AC3 Contribute to the development of the knowledge and practice of others AD1 Raise awareness about substances, their use and effects AF2 Carry out assessment to identify and prioritise need AF3 Carry out comprehensive substance misuse assessment AI2 Help individuals address their substance use through an action plan This course is aimed at anyone who works with young people or with solvent users in particular. It would be beneficial if those attending this course have completed a drug awareness programme or have a basic understanding of categories of drugs, why people use drugs and effects & consequences of drug use.
