Understanding Hepatitis


Aims

The programme aims to increase and develop participants’ knowledge and understanding of the various strains of hepatitis and the progression of the virus within the human body.

It also aims to provide an overview of the treatments available and identify effective strategies for harm minimisation techniques.


Learning objectives

On completion of the programme participants will:

  • Define hepatitis and develop an understanding of the different viral strains
  • Understand prevalence of hepatitis in the UK and elsewhere
  • Identify ‘at risk’ groups
  • Explore the functions and biology of the liver
  • Be able to identify and recognise the signs and symptoms of liver disease
  • Identify how to reduce the risk of transmission of viral hepatitis
  • Understand treatment and immunisation issues

This programme is aimed at anyone with an interest in, or who works with, injecting drug users (past or present). It is also useful for anyone who works in the area of sexual health. It does not demand any previous knowledge on behalf of those attending.

The quiz formats are light hearted and non-threatening allowing participants to test their own learning without pressure or fear of exposure. All of our programmes concentrate on allowing participants to relax and enjoy the learning experience.

All participants completing this course will receive a certificate of attendance and a portfolio of information for future reference in a binder.
