'All Washed Up' Crack Cocaine Awareness



Aims

The aims of this educational programme are to increase knowledge and develop understanding of crack cocaine use in terms of prevalence, effects and the associated risk implications it further aims to focus on issues surrounding crack cocaine and pregnancy and to highlight current treatments and their overall effectiveness

Learning Objectives

On completion of the programme participants will be able to:

  • Explore the latest trends and prevalence of crack cocaine use within the UK
  • Understand the effects of using crack cocaine
  • Identify health and social consequences associated with the use of crack cocaine
  • Understand risks of using crack cocaine during pregnancy
  • Identify therapies and treatments available for crack cocaine use
  • Explore the potential impact on drug services that work with the crack cocaine using client group

This programme is aimed at anyone who wishes to increase their knowledge of crack cocaine. It will be beneficial for those attending to have completed a drug awareness programme or to have a basic understanding of the categories of drugs, their effects and the consequences of drug use. If your target group do not have this basic knowledge speak to us about including this in the learning objectives.

All participants completing this course will receive a certificate of attendance and a comprehensive portfolio of information for future reference in a binder.

Drugs and Alcohol National Occupational Standards (DANOS)

This course supports the attainment of the following DANOS units:

AA1:Recognise indications of substance misuse and refer individuals to specialists

AA3:Enable individuals to find out about and use services and facilities

AA4:Promote people’s equality, diversity and rights

AA5:Interact with individuals using telecommunications

AB1: Support individuals when they are distressed

AB2:Support individuals who are substance users

AB5:Assess and act upon immediate risk of danger to substance users

AC1:Develop your own knowledge and practice

AC3:Contribute to the development of the knowledge and practice of others

AD1:Raise awareness about substances, their use and effects

AD4:Develop and disseminate information and advice about substance use, health and social wellbeing

AF2:Carry out assessment to identify and prioritise need

AF3:Carry out comprehensive substance misuse assessment

AG1:Plan and agree service responses which meet individuals identified needs and circumstances
