Aims

The programme aims to increase participants’ knowledge and understanding of the current issues relating to young people and cannabis use and the impact of harm minimisation techniques.

It also aims to explore the law and the consequences for young people.


Learning objectives

On completion of the programme participants will be able to:

  • Explore prevalence of cannabis use amongst young people
  • Understand different types of cannabis available, how it is used and its effects
  • Understand current legislation relating to cannabis possession and supply
  • Explore potential consequences and implications for young people
  • Identify techniques to support young people who use cannabis including harm minimisation advice

This programme is aimed at anyone working with young people who use cannabis. It looks at cannabis education in informal/formal settings and is therefore suitable for YOTs, Connexions, Social Services, LAC, LEAs, schools, Youth Service etc

The programme is readily adaptable for delivery directly to young people.

All participants completing this Healthwise Training Services programme will receive a certificate of attendance and a comprehensive portfolio of information for future reference in a binder.

Drug and Alcohol National Occupational Standards (DANOS)

This course supports the attainment of the following DANOS Units:

AA1:Recognise indications of substance misuse and refer individuals to specialists

AA3:Enable individuals to find out about and use services and facilities

AA4:Promote people’s equality, diversity and rights

AB2:Support individuals who are substance users

AC1:Develop your own knowledge and practice

AD1:Raise awareness about substances, their use and effects

AF2:Carry out assessment to identify and prioritise need

AG1:Plan and agree service responses which meet individuals identified needs and circumstances

AI2:Help individuals address their substance use through an action plan
