Understanding Blood Borne Viruses (BBV)

Healthwise Training Services - A One-day programme

Aims

This one day programme aims to increase knowledge and develop understanding of blood borne viruses including Hepatitis and HIV, to describe current treatments available, raising awareness of the health and safety procedures needed to minimise the spread of infection.


Learning Objectives

On completion of the programme participants will be able to:

  • Explore prevalence of blood borne viruses in the UK and elsewhere
  • Understand the virology of blood borne viruses
  • Identify transmission routes of blood borne viruses
  • Define 'disease progression' in relation to HIV
  • Explore effective prevention measures to minimise BBV infection
  • Understand current vaccinations available for viral infections

This course is aimed at anyone who is or works with, or lives with, people affected by Blood Borne Viruses (HIV, Hepatitis etc). This is an introductory level course and will provide a good grounding in basic information about viruses and disease progression. It is suitable for any interested party.

All participants completing this course wil receive a certificate of attendance and a comprehensive portfolio of information about HIV and Hepatitis for future reference in a binder.

AG1: Plan and agree service responses, which meet individuals' identified needs and circumstances
