A Healthwise Training Services Programme

Aims

The programme aims to increase and develop participant’s knowledge and understanding of contraception issues, current methods available and information on the efficacy of methods.

It also aims to highlight current contraceptive legislation, issues around confidentiality, religious and cultural beliefs and identify appropriate services available for young people.


Learning objectives

On completion of the programme participants will be able to:

  • Understand the process of reproductive health and associated terminology
  • Explore barriers faced by individuals accessing sexual health products and services
  • Identify both pre- and post-coital contraception methods, efficacy measures and outcomes
  • Understand legislation regarding contraception including issues of confidentiality
  • Explore the spectrum of attitudes and beliefs in relation to a multi-cultural and diverse society
  • Identify national, regional and local network of services for further advice, guidance and support

This programme is aimed at anyone working with clients young or not so young where there is a need to understand more about methods of contraception, efficacy, cultural diversity etc. It is eminently suitable for school nurses, youth workers etc.

It is also suitable for direct delivery to young people as it assumes no previous knowledge on the part of the participants.

All participants completing this Healthwise Training Services programme will receive a certificate of attendance and a comprehensive portfolio of information for future reference in a binder.
